Hope Is Not Enough. Edition #99 — October 26, 2007 I love digital cameras. I haven't taken a roll of film in 2 years. The other day I was out taking some scenery shots and when I looked out onto a nearby farmer's field the words "Hope Is Not Enough" came into my mind. I snapped a few pictures as the hope concept swirled around in my head. Here's what I came up with... As I look at my words I'm aware that I've written something that has been said by others before me. One example: "God helps those who help themselves." It doesn't mean that there's no God, so don't have faith. It simply means that if you sit on your fat arse and wait for everything to come your way, then you won't appreciate what you haven't worked for. And therefore, you don't deserve to have it. Make sense? My picture taking foray began when I stumbled upon a beautiful dark butterfly feeding on the nectar amidst a brightly colored batch of flowers. And it was picture perfect. How often does that come along? Once for me so far. So I had a choice. I could run into the house and get the camera — and HOPE that the butterfly was still there when I came back. Or I could do nothing. I got the camera. Hope And Healing. Ironically, as I finished that last sentence the phone rang. It was an old neighbour who had moved away years ago to live in Toronto, the place from which I escaped. We talked about his health. His doctor is giving him a medication that is making his nose bleed. Earlier, upon the same doctor's advice, he had two procedures which caused him to have a stroke and then a heart attack. Is he being healed? He hopes so. I know a few people in the medical field, some are on my list. I called a doctor I trust who might be able to help. I hope. But without action, there is no potential, right? I can put out a signal but if no one answers, then at least I've tilled the soil and planted the seed. And if someone does help this man, then he must not sit around on his fat arse hoping others will make him better. He needs to participate, not spectate. I work constantly at my craft, whether it's music, writing or graphic design. All of it meant to orchestrate a single message that may or may not be getting through to people out there. Follow your heart, follow your passion, and if someone is in your way, jump over them. But take action, because without it, all you have is hope. Okay, little beauty, smile!
