SOS — Silly Office Screensaver!

Edition #83 — July 11, 2006

Three years ago, I bought some costly software to create my Reality Check screensavers. Soon afterward I got stuck on a coding problem and put the project on hold till I could give it more attention. I'm happy to report that I'm finally releasing my screensaver. The only catch is that it's not the one I'd intended.

I woke up one morning last month with the desire to create a simple screensaver for my computer. Something with an attitude. What has resulted is a project called the "Silly Office Screensaver." It's a desktop dispenser of playful putdowns for office workers to laugh at.

Yours For Only...

I've made a demo available for anyone on my mailing list who wants to see what I'm talking about. I'm doing some final testing now and the full version will be available in a few days. Even sillier, it's only going to cost $1.11 to own.

"SOS," as I have named it, has also been therapeutic for me. It gave me a chance to remember how good it feels to be a smartass. It's good to take off these wings once in a while. :)

SOS was also helpful in getting me over the original coding hurdle. That means I'll also be releasing my Reality Check screensavers soon because now I know how to finish them. I also wrote a nifty little sound track for SOS, which I'll incorporate as well.

What's the moral of the story? The redeeming message in this month's newsletter? The next time you think of something silly to do and it makes you laugh — do it! You never know how it's going to turn out. Joy has a way of making your moments magical and your work feel like play. Maybe you'll get a lot more out of it than you imagined. I know I sure did. :)
