Quote THIS! Edition #57 — June 3, 2004 Hi there realitycheckers. I confess, I don't watch a lot of TV news. I find the blood, gore, sports and weather formula too one-sided and depressing. I do, however, make a habit of scanning the news headlines at Yahoo.com or CNN.com and read whichever articles catch my eye. Sometimes I save things for further digestion. It's a lucky thing, because this month's newsletter is a collage of quotes from some of those news articles attributed to anyone from The Dalai Lama to George W. Bush, Prince Charles and yes, even Ted Nugent. All quotes are separated by an "*" asterisk. (Can I say that?) I'm sure you'll like this! So let's begin... *
"They've proven to me that God is universal."
*
"It currently takes over 50,000 dollars a day to maintain our television and radio airtime. We can't accomplish this monumental task on our own. We need your help. Together we can make a difference with the Word of God."
*
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."
*
"God loves you, and I love you. And you can count on both of us as a powerful message that people who wonder about their future can hear."
*
"Burn, baby, burn!"
*
"All these [games] severely distort historical facts and violate China's gaming and Internet service regulations. The game should be immediately prohibited."
*
"I don't want to judge what people consider to be entertainment, but watching him force-feed himself to the point of vomiting and getting a rectal exam is not how I prefer to spend my free time."
*
"I AM MRS. SESE-SEKO WIDOW OF LATE PRESIDENT MOBUTU SESE-SEKO OF ZAIRE. NOW KNOWN AS DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (DRC). I AM MOVED TO WRITE YOU THIS LETTER, THIS WAS IN CONFIDENCE CONSIDERING MY PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCE AND SITUATION."
*
"Why, of course, the people don't want war....But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship...voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."
*
"Of course not, Tim ... And as Vice President, I have absolutely no influence of, involvement of, knowledge of in any way, shape or form of contracts led by the [Army] Corps of Engineers or anybody else in the Federal Government."
*
"We live in fictitious times, where we have fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president... We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons."
*
"Los Angeles sends 200 tons of euthanized cats and dogs to West Coast Rendering every month."
*
"I believe that if we are to achieve genuinely sustainable development, we will first have to rediscover, or re-acknowledge, a sense of the sacred in our dealings with the natural world and with each other. If literally nothing is held sacred any more -- because it is considered synonymous with superstition or in some other way "irrational" -- what is there to prevent us treating our entire world as some "great laboratory of life," with potentially disastrous long-term consequences?"
*
"I believe that the very purpose of our life is to seek happiness. That is clear. Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, we all are seeking something better in life. So, I think the very motion of our life is towards happiness. "
*
"... but if I would have gone over there, I'd have been killed, or I'd have killed, or I'd killed all the hippies in the foxholes...I would have killed everybody."
*
"Just remember it's the birds that's supposed to suffer, not the hunter."
*
"Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody's watching."
*
"Hey — buy my book!"
*
