Dry Ice: Oil spill containment idea. Special Edition #130b — May 2, 2010 Concerning the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, below is short letter outlining an idea for removing the oil from the surface of the Gulf Of Mexico waters. I have already sent it out to one government official and the BP Oil Company Website. Rather than feel like a sitting duck, I needed to do something positive. I hope someone tries this because it seems like a reasonable idea to me. Dry Ice: Oil spill control and containment idea Method: DRY ICE.When oil makes contact with extreme cold it can be better controlled and perhaps loaded as "chunks" into barges rather than allowing it to slither away in a sticky film into the marshes. Booms or barriers could be made that contain dry ice pellets with conductive metal contacts on the oil collection side to establish a cold surface contact temperature. These freezing tubes can be dragged or placed stationary in areas and the oil collected from the inner edges of the freezing surface so that more oil can approach the cooling area. Please let me know if this resonates. It seems the opposite approach to what is being taken and perhaps it is one that may work better, or at least add some additional advantage to what is surely a far reaching and terrifying industrial catastrophe. Sincerely,
