Rush Loves Anne, Pass It On! Edition #116 — March 10, 2009 As I aspire to become a kinder, gentler being, it is the viral negativity of "pro-hate" celebrities such as Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter that just freaks me out. How can such people even exist, let alone have an audience? Now, I realize that they're just unconfessed comedians - but I don't get their jokes. And when they laugh, it seems more like a sad event than a joyful one. On the flipside, I always watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He is definitely a bonified comedian. Yet his guests have included leaders from foreign countries and the "who's who" of modern political and academic circles. Ironically, I learn more about true politics and world events from watching his show than from any other source. Not bad for a court jester on Comedy Central. Rush Limbaugh - Pro-Hate Icon. Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, has offered up such wisdom as: "Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society." And yet Rush himself is unattractive in multiple facets of his life - three divorces can't be wrong. He not only appears perpetually angry (women love that!) but he's obese and rather unattractive as well - at least when compared to men with easier access to the mainstream of society. He should count his blessings that radio exists. And speaking of hypocrisy, let's not forget that while Rush Limbaugh was condemning drug addicts he was himself addicted to "painkilling" drugs and arrested for allegedly "doctor shopping" - which is what proud junkies do to score. Rush even suggested that drug criminals go to prison for their sins. But he beat his own charge with a fine and promise to rehabilitate. And now he's a brand new man, right? I think you can judge how deep a person's well of knowledge is by how quickly they resort to insults just to stay in an argument. Rush Limbaugh supposedly coined the term "FemiNazi - to whom the most important thing in life is ensuring that as many abortions as possible occur." Actually, it was a way for women to join forces to help overthrow narrow-minded male tyrannts who were running the world - and women's married life - into the ground. My overall impression of Rush Limbaugh is that he can't be happy unless he's making someone else unhappy. Well done, Rush! Here's $33 million per year for trying to innoculate us against joy. Anne Coulter - Another Pro-Hate Icon. Anne Coulter is another one of those people who seems happiest when she's making others sad. Her insults, hurtful remarks, ignorance and overall bad vibes are legendary in the "I can't believe she said that!" media circus circuit. Whenever I see her on television - or YouTube - I'm amazed at her hunger for negativity and her combative arrogance. Her constant Liberal bashing seems to be her bread and butter ever since her first book bashed a very successful president, Bill Clinton for not being Republican. Yet when is her anti-George W. Bush coming out? Oh, she never wrote one? Perhaps she's only using Liberals as a symbolic proxy for someone in her past that made her feel so dark and destructive inside. I can't prove that, but the ease with which she can move from one anger-provoking subject to another is eerily telling of someone surrounding herself with the darkest that life has to offer. She also looks anorexic - a sign of a self image problem, or even self loathing. Self neglect and constant rage are not a good state of mental health for someone influencing the thinking of others. She's obviously a deeply unhappy person in private life. Anyone can fake a smile these days, but it takes a lover of life to actually feel it. And yet, she has created a media empire from her frothing at the mouth madness and intellectual infamy. But who goes to her for sane insight and advice? Perhaps she should become Rush Limbaugh's running mate for the next presidential election. That way at least crazy has a face we can all recognize - (sorry, my pool of knowledge ran out and I had to resort to an insult). Thank You, Jon (And Stephen!) Jon Stewart is a highly intelligent and thoughtful man on television. I suspect that he is also that way in his personal life since no one seems to be bashing him. Ex-Daily Show alumni, Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report, obviously loves Jon - in a manly kind of way, of course... On either of their shows you won't find back stabbing or pointless raging anger (unless it's mock anger for the sake of the skit). What you will find is plenty of intelligent discourse often disguised as comedy. There is more truth to be found in the words of Jon Stewart than in anything else that I have access to through the media. I find it ironic that the world's sanity is being kept by the jesters of the court. But hasn't it always been? In fact the word "humour" means to flow. And when we stop flowing, we stagnate and become clogged in our thinking and our lives - like a fat angry man with an impeded heart flow. So remember to laugh - it's more than just fun, it's also good medicine. Subscribe to free newsletter
