This Game Is On!!!!! Edition #109 — August 17, 2008 Blah, blah, blah — 109th monthly newsletters written by me, a musician, and never once have I offered to let you hear a song that I've written or even demonstrated my widely self-publicized ability to make music. Well, no more. This month, in place of my words, I'm going to let the music do the talking. I have entered a contest put on by Canada's national broadcaster, the CBC, who are looking for a new anthem for their Hockey Night In Canada televised shows. My entry is entitled, This Game Is On. The old anthem is a HUGE tradition here in .ca and those who have come to know and love it over the past few decades will want something that can replace the irreplaceable. The station is unable to secure the rights for the old song and have therefore put out the call to all music makers great and small to send in their idea of what a great hockey song should sound like. Here is mine: http://anthemchallenge.cbc.ca/mediadetail/301437 If you like what you hear, please say so. Rate the song and leave a comment that is based upon what you think of the song, not what you think of me. ;) Okay? NOTE: Some people have been experiencing problems rating the song on the CBC website. There is no known explanation as yet since this would be in the hands of CBC to remedy. Please, rather than losing your valuable feedback, contact the CBC via email and let them know that you want to vote for my song and how you like it, rated 1 to 5. I'm leaning heavily toward the "5" myself. ;) I will be sending in at least one more entry over the next two weeks. And by the way, this is the first time I've written anything of this nature. The "real" stuff that I've been working on for years is pop/rock/funk. But hey, I'll try anything once, twice, or to excess if it feels good. Maybe you should do the same. Take a chance, a leap of faith. Keep your eye on the goal, not on you. And maybe you'll wind up putting something out there that you never imagined you would, or could. Just a thought. And good luck.
