Gulf Oil Spill Updates And Ideas

Freezing The Pipe Closed

Special Edition #130b — May 13, 2010

Hi everyone, another oil spill update:

Steve, my oldest friend from high school, went on to become a civil engineer. I approached him last week about my idea of using a dry ice skimmer or even a roller on the beach to harden the oil. He has made various inquiries and today followed up with an idea that had also entered my mind.

What if the oil spill could be frozen over with dry ice or some other freezing application? The "dome" that was supposed to carry the oil to the surface has already proved that freezing works to seal an opening at such depths, especially when made of metal, as the pipe also seems to be.

The approach might be to first load the opening with ice or other hard matter - rocks and sand, for instance - and then flash freeze it with something that will either slow or stop the flow of oil.

The answer to their problem may have been in front of their eyes last week already.

Pass it on.

Using Hay To Clean Oil From The Ocean

Special Edition #130b — May 12, 2010

Hi everyone. I'll be doing some micro updates regarding the Gulf Oil Spill over the coming weeks.

After I came up with the notion to use dry ice to harden the oil I sent the idea to several people. As well, I've been following some of the "green" technologies that can be used to soak up the oil and I found one that is the perfect answer - plain old hay.

As this video clearly demonstrates, it works incredibly well and is natural and non-toxic. It's amazing that industries spending billions to pour toxic dispersants into the ocean can't find ways to save the ecosystem without allowing some chemical company to profit from the disaster. Ladies and gentlemen, we are being misled by selfish lost souls.

Here's the better solution: pass it on. It's a winner.

Dry Ice: Oil spill containment idea.

Special Edition #130b — May 2, 2010

Concerning the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, below is short letter outlining an idea for removing the oil from the surface of the Gulf Of Mexico waters. I have already sent it out to one government official and the BP Oil Company Website. Rather than feel like a sitting duck, I needed to do something positive. I hope someone tries this because it seems like a reasonable idea to me.

Dry Ice: Oil spill control and containment idea

Method: DRY ICE.When oil makes contact with extreme cold it can be better controlled and perhaps loaded as "chunks" into barges rather than allowing it to slither away in a sticky film into the marshes.

Booms or barriers could be made that contain dry ice pellets with conductive metal contacts on the oil collection side to establish a cold surface contact temperature.

These freezing tubes can be dragged or placed stationary in areas and the oil collected from the inner edges of the freezing surface so that more oil can approach the cooling area.

Please let me know if this resonates. It seems the opposite approach to what is being taken and perhaps it is one that may work better, or at least add some additional advantage to what is surely a far reaching and terrifying industrial catastrophe.

Sincerely,
